Mentor Training and Deadlines

I hope that the new term has started to ease a little and you are getting into your routines of teaching and working with students this academic year. I thought it might be a good time to share the final Mentor Training recording I did from the session on 18th October which was a mop up session for those that had not made it to a session. This is mainly due to the observations happening at the moment, and the submission of the portfolios is coming very quickly!

To view this session for a reminder click this link https://port-ac-uk.zoom.us/rec/share/67epp0o3dQzicnqkrOlrr3Wsk1bO4iQqFSJ0iZqHPqBXfay92-B59a_blSiZ1GDb.HMei4WQTKUXmfoXC  And enter the following Passcode: 3xgj%VCg

The slides from the session can also be found here and these have access to the example documents and Roseshine reading as discussed in the training. I have linked these here for ease of reference:
Current Priorities

Last week trainees were treated to the following sessions:
  • Ofsted in FE
  • Supporting Students From Service Families
  • Evaluating their own behaviour management
This Friday in the morning the trainees will be peer assessing each others portfolios and the personal tutors will be having a formative glance at the paperwork. In the afternoon I will be running a session on marking student work to introduce the basics of on script marking and a feedback summary.

Please urge your trainees to get up to date with their paperwork and discuss with them how marking works in the department. What things do you or don't you do as this will enhance the session on Friday.

Follow up Training

For more information on the observation form and procedures, please look at the mentor training website. I have updated this with the new paperwork for 2023 on our pages https://sites.google.com/port.ac.uk/uop-fhss-pgce-mic/further-education

Online sessions will be held as per the guidance below in the new year. Calendar invitations will be sent out soon. FT Mentor training 2023/2024
