3rd Week on Placement
It is now the start of week three of placement. I hope that everything has been working well so far and that the trainees have been able to dabble in a little bit of teaching. Please ensure that you check the Teaching Hours Guide to check they are on track. Trainees should have done 1 hour last week and have 2 hours of teaching planned for this coming week.
It was lovely to meet the majority of you at one of the many mentor training sessions I have done over the last couple of weeks. As I stated in the training, please ensure that the PDR and respective meeting is the held as an important contact time and use the guidance document I produced to help you with this.
I just thought I would send a little update about where we are on the programme at university and what you need to focus on at placement this week:
University - Last Week
Last week at university was our formatively assessed microteaches in which all trainees received feedback on their teaching to be used in their first summative assignment due on 2nd November. It was a really inspiring day and is always lovely to see the trainees teaching their subject as this makes them come alive.
We also had a lecture and a session of Adaptive Teaching. The trainees have started to extend their thoughts on this and helping them see this working in practice would be a great focus for this week.
On placement - This Week
To support what we are doing at university, please do the following:
- ask about the feedback from the microteach and how it went
- provide the students with access to the current specification for one group they are likely to teach and an indication of a module they may teach on
- have a 1-1 meeting between the trainee and the subject mentor to: ensure the PDR targets from last week have been discussed and reflected on set new targets for trainees to be working on next week
- Discuss how you implement adaptive teaching into your subject area
University - This week
On Thursday and Friday this week we will be starting our next module which is about learning theories and external factors and their impact on students. This will be an assessed narrated presentation where they will need to implement a Digital Teaching Method into their practice and consider how this aligns with learning theory, is impacted by external factors (demographics, economic, culture, family) and learner additional needs such as SEND.
I hope you find this update helpful. Let me know if you need anything else.
Thanks and have a good week
Jo
